Report on the 2026 KWPN Stallion Show
The KWPN-NA organized a tour to the Netherlands in combination with a visit to the KWPN Stallion Show. This trip took place from January 25-February 1st. We named the trip ‘AGM Part 1’ – as this trip offered a get together for members that would else be organized during an in- person Annual Meeting which is not taking place this year. The AGM Part 2 – the virtual AGM- will take place on March 21st. Read more about that here.
We will now share the videos and newsposts as well as the results on the Stallion selections that took place during the stallion show.

Stallion selections
The KWPN Stallion selection process consists of three rounds: the first and second viewing and the performance test.
The first viewing takes place in December each year in Ermelo. The committee looks at the conformation and foundation and free movement, and selects the best stallions to come to Den Bosch for the second round. In Den Bosch, another selection takes place after which only the best stallions get invited for the performance test to become approved stallions with the KWPN.
Since the stallions are only 2.5 when they are presented at the second viewing, the performance test won’t take place for them until the fall of their 3-year-old year. To give the owners and breeders an opportunity for breeding in their first year, the KWPN gives the selected stallions a temporary breeding license. Their foals born the following year will get reg A papers. The stallions needs to have their veterinary requirements in order to be able to get this license. If they don’t do the performance test eventually in the fall or the spring following, they will lose their license again.
A total of 51 jumping stallions and 46 dressage stallions were selected for the performance test at the second viewing in Den Bosch. Six Harness horses were selected and five Gelders horses.
