Keuring Awards

The KWPN of North America is proud to offer an expansive Awards program as part of our Annual Keuring (inspection) Tour.

Keuring Awards

In addition to individual awards presented at each location on the annual KWPN-NA keuring tour, the KWPN-NA is proud to recognize exceptional individuals from the overall tour as our yearly TOP TENS in the dressage, jumper, hunter, gelders, and harness divisions, as well as IBOP, DG Bar Cup, and Global Equine Sires Cup winners.

  • Iron Spring Farm sponsors the Keuring Championship Awards, based on the Keuring Top 10’s. These awards will distribute prize money to the breeders and recognize the Champion and Reserve Champion Foal and Mature Horses (3-7 year-old stallion, mare and gelding) in each of the breeding directions: dressage, jumping, hunters, harness and Gelders.
  • The Gert van der Veen award is given to the Champion mares aged 3-5 with at least 75/75 for conformation and movement. An award is given per breeding direction.
  • Two of our under saddle classes for Young horses are sponsored: the DG Bar Cup for dressage horses is sponsored by DG Bar Ranch and the Global Equine Sires Cup for jumpers is sponsored by Global Equine Sires. The award money for the winners of the DG Bar Cup is split between the breeders and the owners. The award money for the winners of the Global Equine Sires Cup goes to the owner.
  • We also award the Top Keuring Sire (activated stallion with most placings in the Keuring Top Tens) and the Top Keuring Breeder (breeder with the most placings in the Keuring Top Tens).
  • Finally, we award the winners of the Foal & Yearling Futurity. The prize fund for this Futurity (which takes place during the Keuring tour), consists of $10k plus the entry funds.

The Gert van der Veen Award

This award was established in memory of Gert van der Veen, who was instrumental in launching the KWPN-NA and ‘steered the ship’ for 15 years. Gert was the head of the NA Keuring jury for 13 years and an ex-officio member of the Board of Directors. He was generous with his time and knowledge, a good friend and a much-admired colleague.

Historically this award was given to the highest scoring mare in the keuring tour, with a minimum score of 75 points for conformation and for movement/jumping. In 2017, the award was expanded to up to five recipients, with one from each breeding direction for mares between the ages of 3 and 5. The winners are to still have a minimum of 75 points in conformation and movement/jumping and are selected by the NA Keuring jury.

Congratulations to our 2023 winners:

Foal & Yearling Futurity

Since 2021, the KWPN-NA has implemented a Stallion Offspring Futurity.

These are the rules of the game:

  • All nominated foal and yearling inspection scores will determine final placing.
  • Foals and yearlings must be nominated at the time they register for inspection.
  • The Futurity is open to all “Foal Book” and “Register A” KWPN-NA registered foals and yearlings bred, owned, and residing in North America
  • Separate rankings for foals & yearlings.
  • Total prize fund is $10,000, allocated from the proceeds of the Stallion Service Auction.
  • Offspring sired by stallions participating in the SSA the year of breeding will get FREE ENTRY to the Futurity.
  • A $35 nomination/entry fee for foals or yearlings from stallions that did not participate in the SSA the year of their breeding.
  • Entry fees are added to the prize fund, less 10% for administrative expenses.
  • The Futurity will include the following divisions for each official breeding direction of the KWPN-NA, so there are 10 groups:
  1. Dressage Horses – foals & yearlings
  2. Jumpers – foals & yearlings
  3. Hunters — foals & yearlings
  4. Harness Horses – foals & yearlings
  5. Gelders Horses – foals & yearlings
  • No minimum number of entries per division.
  • The foals and yearlings need to have a minimum score of 70 to qualify for the award.
  • Payout to first 3 places in each group (Owner 56% & Breeder 44%).
  • All ties will be split equally.
  • The owner of a stallion that participated in the SSA, and whose foals placed in the top 3 will receive a plaque as recognition.
  • The highest scoring foal and yearling will receive a ribbon.
