Pedigree information:

The combined genetic potential of Totilas and Valegro, two of the greatest dressage horses of this era, is now available to North American breeders! Tolegro, a beautiful homozygous black son of Totilas, descends from Krack C, Ferro, and the mare line that produced Negro, sire of Valegro, and thus delivers to breeders the KWPN blood of the most successful International grand prix dressage horses in recent history.

Tolegro was bred in Holland and purchased as a foal by German Grand Prix rider Bernadette Brune. At the 2013 Oldenburg Stallion Licensing in Vechta, he impressed the Germans with his outstanding gait dynamics and natural inclination to carry weight on the hindlegs. In 2016 he finished his stallion performance test with a 9.5 for willingness to work and an overall score of 8.06. Tolegro is approved with the Oldenburg (German Oldenburg Verband), Hanoverian, and Westphalian breed registries. Tolegro has competed through Prix St. Georges with scores to 69%, and easily schools the movements at Grand Prix. He has been trained and shown up through the levels by his owner Bernadette Brune. His effortless, expressive movement in highly collected exercises, such as piaffe and pirouette, is reminiscent of his sire Totilas.

Tolegro is a son of Totilas and out of the ster, prestatie mare Tewrie by Krack C. Many dressage fans consider Totalis to be the greatest dressage horse of all time. During his time as partner with Dutch rider Edward Gal, Totilas smashed world records three times and captivated audiences, particularly at the 2010 World Equestrian Games in the USA where he won triple gold.   He has already won the 2009 FEI World Championship and World Cup Final.  Totilas was the first horse ever to break 90% at the international Grand Prix level.  Totilas performed with a charisma that transcended the cloistered world of dressage, as he won admirers from all over the world. Totilas had a particular gift for collected work, with piaffe, passage and pirouettes so ideal the judges found the courage to award 10s.  Totalis was also rumored to be the most expensive dressage horse ever sold, with a price tag of 9.5 million euro to the German stallion station of Paul Schockemohle. Krack C, by Flemmingh, is the damsire of Tolegro.  Krack C is well known as an international competition horse for 9-time Olympic medalist Anky Van Grunsven.  In addition, Krack C has had an important influence on Dutch breeding.

  • Sire of ten approved KWPN stallions, including Vivaldi and United
  • Sire of 15 licensed sons in Germany
  • Sire of 25 Grand Prix horses

The ster prestatie mare Tewrie, dam of Tolegro, descends from a successful mare line in Holland.  One of the most important products of this line is Negro, sire of Valegro.   Valegro needs no introduction, but it can be repeated that he won Olympic gold three times.   Where Totilas dazzled, Valegro impressed the most scrupulous of judges and spectators, with his consistent high standard of correct, supple dressage work.  After Totilas retired to the breeding shed, the gelding Valegro surpassed Totilas’ record scores with scores up to 94%. Valegro’s sire Negro is a son of Ferro, one of the most consistent sires of Grand Prix genetics in modern history.  Ferro appears in Tolegro’s pedigree as well, as the sire of pref Leandra, dam of Tewrie. Leandra produced the licensed stallion A Big Pleasure, by Aachen, the intermediate M- level dressage horses Useful and VIP, both by Polansky, as well as the successful show mare Wild Pleasure by Jazz, who herself produced the licensed stallion Dark Pleasure.   Great granddam, keur pref prest Equador, competed successfully in dressage up to intermediate (M) level, and produced the dressage horses Karanza, Matura and Utah.

Breeding Advice

Tolegro has a friendly, gentle disposition. He has a strong work ethic and is a go-getter in the show ring. He passes on his athleticism, optimal active hind leg usage, and elegant, leggy conformation. Breeders report that their foals inherit his uphill, ground covering paces and a happy, beautiful nature. Tolegro is homozygous for black, which means he can produce no chestnut foals. While most of his foals are black are bay, he has sired a stunning buckskin for Brune.
