Iron Spring Farm’s Consul Celebrates 30th Birthday
March 5th, 2014, is a very special day – it is the 30th birthday for Iron Spring Farm’s beloved KWPN stallion, Consul. He competed as a jumper as a 4 yr old in the Netherlands and then as a small tour dressage horse in the USA.
Consul (Nimmerdor pref x Waloniki, ster pref prest by Purioso keur) was born on March 5,1984, on the farm of breeder J. Kaas in the Netherlands.
Consul only bred one full season in Holland before being imported to Iron Spring Farm in Pennsylvania in 1989. His most famous offspring is the approved KWPN stallion, Judgement ISF (former international Grand Prix jumper ridden by Beezie Madden). Consul also sired the KWPN-NA licensed stallion, Ibsen.
A few of Consul’s other notable offspring are Grand Prix jumper Black Diamond, international Event horses Critical Decision and Safari, Grand Prix Dressage horses Najinski and Zanzibar. He is also the dam’s sire of Orion, Canadian Leslie Reid’s Olympic dressage horse.
Consul bred mares with cooled semen until he was 27 years old and still breeds about 20 mares a year with frozen semen. Iron Spring Farm feels honored and blessed to have owned this wonderful stallion since 1989!
