The first KWPN-NA Inspection of 2024 was held for the second time last Tuesday and Wednesday at Wim Cazemier Equine Center in Spencerville, Indiana.
The well-organized two-day inspection was held under very warm conditions at the beautiful location, where the interest was somewhat smaller compared to last year. The quantity was unfortunately also somewhat less, but there was good quality with several high scoring horses.

Young Horse Classes:

Foals/Weanlings – Harness

In total, ten foals competed for the championship titles, with five Register B and five foal book foals, as usual being judged in separate categories, which also resulted in two foal championships. The average quality was more than sufficient to very good, with all foals easily being rewarded with a first premium.

Three foals were invited to the foal book championship, with the filly foal UPDATE (Hermanus x Fleur Reg. A by Zimone VSH,  BREEDER/OWNER:  Martin M. Schmucker) becoming champion for the fillies.   2nd Place went to UPHORIA (Hermanus x Lillian Ster by Vaandrager,  BREEDER/OWNER:  Glen Yoder) and the colt foal URIKO (Atleet x Extra Chic Ster by Vaandrager, BREEDER/OWNER:  Justin Bontrager) placed third.

UPDATE is sufficiently developed and very harness in type. She has a lot of breed quality and expression with a beautiful neck that is very well placed and has a solid foundation, however she was still somewhat croup high. In movement,  she managed to upgrade herself considerably. She made herself very dignified, carried her neck very well and showed very good action and a harness type trot all around.

UPHORIA is more than sufficiently developed, refined and high-legged. She has a good Harness type and has a beautiful neck and good withers. She could have a bit more muscling. She showed an appealing trot with a beautiful front, a lot of suppleness, balance and suspension, in which her ability to adjust her speed was also noticeable.

Two Register B foals were invited to the final and the filly U ROSE C (Melody Acres My-Quest x Jay Rose Keur by Plain’s Liberator, BREEDER/OWNER: Wim Cazemier) was the most complete foal.

U ROSE C is a very nicely modeled harness type.  She has a lot of breed type and charisma, and is proportionally built and uphill. In addition, she has an appealing front end, hardiness and a strong topline with good withers and shoulder. In movement she showed a very strong trot with a lot of action, suppleness and technique combined with good suspension, good posture and strong hind leg use. She also has shows a lot of adjustability.

Second was the appealing harness type colt USMAN (Nel-Mar Hummer x Dorenda Ster by Plain’s Liberator, BREEDER/OWNER: Dutch Central Stables)  He is well developed, stands well in the rectangular model and is also built uphill.  He has a beautiful neck that is very well placed and the good withers are immediately noticeable. The topline is well connected but the hind leg is a bit long and bent.  In trot he was really not inferior to the winner in terms of front but he had to give in on power, action and the ability to adjust his pace.

Two Year Olds – Harness:

One two-year-old Reg. B mare was offered and this was a very high-quality mare. SKYE ROSE C IBOP (Melody Acres My-Quest x Jay Rose Keur by Plain’s Liberator  Wim Cazemier)  She was already very striking last year as a yearling. She is long-lined, has a lot of charisma, charm, breed type and hardness and is a beauty to behold. You would also like to look at her longer in movement because she is so complete. A beautiful silhouette, a lot of looseness, carrying and ability to adjust her tempo, strength and balance are a number of characteristics of her harness-typical movements.

Foals/Weanlings – Dressage:

For the first time, two Dressage foals and a two-year-old Dressage horse were presented at the inspection in Spencerville.  Both good Reg. A fillies came from  BREEDER/OWNER:  Dutch Central Stables and were placed immediately after the assessment.

UZANNA (Gaudi x Loline by C.E.Z Warrior) came in first and she stands out because of her good rectangular model, high-leggedness, hardness, strong connections and beautiful neck shape. It was striking that her correct foreleg was so well placed under her shoulder.  She has a good walk and trot with a lot of suppleness, a good balance, very nice use of the foreleg and showed good ability to adjust her speed. Her canter was also appealing and showed a lot of self- carriage and spaciousness.

A good second foal was UDIYA (Gaudi x Desire Ster by Vaandrager). In terms of conformation,  she was not inferior to UZANNA and was also well developed, high-legged, with a beautiful neck and strong connections. The correct position of her foreleg also stood out. In terms of movement she certainly appealed, but she had to admit superiority to the other filly presented, especially in the walk.

The two-year-old Reg. A mare SUZANDRA (Gaudi x Duizandra Ster by Vaandrager BREEDER/OWNER: Wim Cazemier)  Is well developed, stood more than sufficiently in the rectangular model and also had strong connections and hardness, whereby her good feet also stood out. Her neck has a good length but comes a little deep out of her chest.  She showed an appealing,  happy presentation with a good walk, a strong trot with a lot of balance and body posture and a good canter. The three assessed Dressage horses easily received a first premium prize.

Stb/Ster 3 +  Year Old – Harness & IBOP

Three mares were presented in this class.

The three-year-old Reg. B mare
ROSIE JAY C PROK (Nel-Mar Hummer x Jay Rose Keur by Plain’s Liberator, BREEDER/OWNER: Wim Cazemier) was already striking last year as a two-year-old and left a very good impression again this year.  She is very good in type, has a beautiful neck that is well placed and a great withers and shoulders. She has a lot of charisma and hardness. If we are very critical, her croup could be a bit more modern and her foreleg could be a bit longer. In movement we saw a beautiful harness type performance in which she managed to score well on all components. It seems to cost her no effort to trot with a lot of power, action, carriage, suppleness and balance.  This PROK-approved mare was quickly admitted to the Reg.  A with good marks and received a first premium.  After the assessment in hand, she was the only participant to be presented twice in the alternative IBOP.  The ease with which she performed in hand was also fully proven during her IBOPs. She was presented very professionally and scored 78 points during the first IBOP.  During her second IBOP she went one step further and was rewarded with 80 points. She scored eights and eight-and-a-half several times and was therefore able to obtain her Elite predicate within two days.  Congratulations!

The five-year-old Reg. B mare O SUNNY DELIGHT (Graaf Kelly x Sunrise’s Knightoremember by Dondersteen,  Breeder: William Detweiler, OWNER:  Janetta Graber and Steven Graber) was admitted to Reg. A with good marks and a first premium and found to be ster-worthy. This mare is of a very typical Harness type and has a lot of expression and front with a well-developed withers and shoulders. Her topline is well connected but she could be a little longer lined. In trot she showed a very good front with a striking amount of body posture and a lot of bend in the hind leg. Her foreleg has a lot of action but could go a little further forward.

The ten-year-old somewhat classic foalbook mare JAINTY VM (Baanbreker x Double C’s Dainty by Gelviro) BREEDER: Vernon A. Miller, OWNER: Lavon R. Yoder) was admitted to the studbook. To receive a first premium, she would have to be a bit more complete in terms of conformation and movement.

Ster/Keur Mare Presentation Class – Harness:

Two mares were offered in this division and the win went to the eight-year-old Ster mare, LILLIAN (Vaandrager x Gentana Keur IBOP by Cizandro, BREEDER:  John Beachy, OWNER: Glen Yoder)  LILLIAN is a refined mare who lacked some muscling and condition because she is lactating, but she is a mare with quality who moves in a harness-typical manner with remarkably good use of the forelegs.
The fifteen-year-old grey Ster mare
EXTRA CHIC (Vaandrager x Tres Chic Ster by Waterman, BREEDER: Kleyne Snuverink (NL) OWNER: Justin Bontrager) who has been well preserved and has a good rectangular model. She followed in second place.

Overall Keuring Championships:

The participation in the General Championship for two-year-old and older Reg. A and Stb. mares was not big with just two horses.

LILLIAN and ROSIE JAY C competed against each other and the title could not escape the brand new Elite mare ROSIE JAY C.

Since half-sister SKYE ROSE C was the only participant in the General Championship for two-year-old and older Reg. B mares, she could not possibly miss that title.

Fine Harness Cup Mares:

On both inspection days a Fine Harness Cup for mares was offered and these classes always provide a lot of enthusiasm and popularity among the drivers and the public. On the first day there were unfortunately only two participants but there was certainly a battle for the win. It was the previously described O SUNNY DELIGHT who took on LILLIAN where O SUNNY DELIGHTwent through the ring with a lot of allure, action, eagerness to walk and body posture and claimed the win.

It was also very noticeable that her rider and owner Janetta Graber presented her extremely controlled and professionally!

On the second day there were three participants and this time O SUNNY DELIGHT was also able to claim the win although it must be said that the eager mare had a bit more trouble with her balance then. Second place went deservedly to LILLIAN who now performed better than the day before. Third place was an honorable one for JAINTY VM.

Sport Predicate- Harness:

For several years now, points for the Sport predicate can be obtained during the IBOP or Fine Harness Cup. To obtain this predicate, a minimum of 50 points are required;

If an IBOP is obtained (75 points or more) and/or a minimum of 7.5 is given as a rating during a Fine Harness Cup, sports points related to those performances are awarded. Various mares, stallions and geldings have already obtained sports points in the past and some of them have now received the coveted Sport predicate- Congrats! At the inspection in Spencerville, sports points could be awarded to ROSIE JAY C, O SUNNY DELIGHT and LILLIAN.
