With Günter Seidel at the 2000 KWPN-NA Annual Meeting

SORRENTO, Florida, Feb. 2, 2015–Metallic, the gray gelding Anne Gribbons trained and rode to Pan American Games silver and then was ridden by Robert Dover to Olympic bronze, has died at the age of 31.

Metallic (KWPN name Casper, Uniform pref x Winderkind ster by Nepal, breeder Stoeterij ‘t Vierspan) died at Judy Bernier’s Rosewood Farm at Sorrento in central Florida. Judy bought the horse from Anne in 1997. Metallic was one of two horses that Anne spent training with Dr. Volker Moritz and competing in Europe in 1992 and 1993. Anne and the KWPN gelding were on the United States silver medal team at the Pan Am Games in Argentina in 1995.

The Swedish-born trainer schooled Metallic to Grand Prix with the 1996 Olympic Games as the goal. However, health issues led Anne to give up that dream and lease Metallic to Jane Forbes Clark so Robert Dover could ride the horse at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. The American team won the bronze medal. Günter Seidel rode Metallic in qualifying rounds for the 2000 Olympic Games team.

Metallic retired from the show ring 14 years ago to go into retirement at Rosewood Farm where, Judy Bernier, said: “Tally will surely be missed by Judy, Elise, Daniel, Caroline and Christopher whom he gave great joy in his everyday love of life.”
