KWPN Stallion Show

Both stallion selection committees expressed satisfaction. Arie Hamoen spoke about the breadth of quality in the riding horses: "I think we've taken a huge step forward with this selection." The KWPN Stallion Show attracted strong interest through the last day, drawing a total of approximately 30,000 spectators, and 50,000 visitors logged on to the KWPN website over the four-day show. "Wonderful to have so much interest!" said Hamoen. "The Stallion Selection Committee provides breeders with a great deal of information and thus insight into the direction of KWPN breeding and its areas of focus. We need to value this huge interest!"

Dressage

Twenty-eight dressage stallions were selected fo the performance test.

The still unnamed Oscar son x MacBeth keur pref sport(dres) by Corleone won the dressage championship. The victory made the celebration complete for owner Gert Willem van Norel whose stallions Oscar, Uphill, and Winningmood produced three of the six stallions in the championship. Second place finisher Charming Utopia (Winningmood x Vigilant Utopia keur by Oscar), is also registered to van Norel.

The Oscar son drew praise for his outstanding conformation and three excellent gaits. "But the Winningmood son made the decision difficult," said chairman Arie Hamoen, referring to the chestnut stallion from Winningmood's first year at stud, bred by Eimert Fikse of Oene. "He also has outstanding conformation and three excellent gaits."

Third place was for #453, the Florencio son Charmeur (ds.Jazz); followed by 630, Carlton Hill (Uphill x Vincent); 661, Cennin (Vivaldi x Donnerhall); and 487, Chopin H (Johnson x Gribaldi).

Jumping

The Up to Date son Cosun captured the jumper championship. The well-developed gray was the best of his breeding direction. Judging Chairman Arie Hamoen: "This stallion was a real eye-catcher from the start, an athlete with excellent conformation - in our eyes - a true sire with very good jumping form and abundant scope." Cosun was bred by A.J. Roosjen of Gasselte, who shares registration of the stallion with Reini Tewis. In second place was Can Can VL, bred by B. van Leur and registered to Koen Brinkman and Van Geel-Schröder BV. Can Can VL is a very well-developed Ukato son, who jumps with good focus and body use.

Third through six place finishers were as follows: 379, Calypso P. (Vingino x Iroko); 203, Cuca-Libre (Namelus R x Mermus R); Carrera 171 (Larino x Contender); and 211, Caspar CB (Numero Uno x Lux).

Harness

Six harness horses were selected for the performance test. Catalog number 847, Chandini H.B, won the harness horse championship. The Wodka HBC son ( x Landini ster pref by Fortissimo) was bred by B.H. Buter and J. Heynen. He was the audience and judging panel favorite. Second was #821, Clemens, a Tendens son x the famous elite mare Viva Jerina, bred by Dini Markhorst. HBC Stables own both stallions. In third was #814, Cavanerno (Saffraan x Vannerna ster by Patijn), bred by S. Wobbes of Roden and registered to M.H.H. Ritsma of Wijnjewoude and L. Wijkmans of Elshout.

Gelders

Four Gelders stallions were selected for the performance test: the champion Casaron and sons of Ahoy, Upperville, and Koss. Their pedigrees vary considerably, which is a positive development with respect to blood distribution.

The Ginus son Casaron emerged the Gelders stallion champion. The bay, bred by Sijpveld, descends from the same line as the international jumper Tepic la Silla. Casaron is a complete horse with youthful presence and good joint articulation.
