KWPN-NA Competition Awards Programs

The KWPN of North America offers one of North America’s most expansive competition awards programs for dressage, hunters, and jumpers, and has recently expanded into combined driving and eventing. The KWPN-NA’s competition awards program has two components: individual show awards (presented at participating competitions), and year-end awards.

Individual Show Awards

The KWPN-NA is proud to partner with show managers from across the country to offer high-point or best score awards for KWPN-registered horses competing at shows throughout the year. Best of all, it’s FREE – we supply beautiful ribbons to present at your show, providing an additional incentive for exhibitors to participate. As a competition manager, all you have to do is apply using the easy online form below. And competitors, want to win more ribbons? Encourage your favorite show to apply!

Requirements:

  1. Competitions must be USEF-licensed unless otherwise approved by the KWPN-NA office.
  2. Horses must be registered as KWPN and a copy of breed registration papers that say “KWPN” must be provided to show secretary. These papers must, in turn, be available if requested by the KWPN-NA office to verify registration. Horses registered with any registry or studbook other than KWPN are not eligible.
  3. The competition must provide a copy of the results to the KWPN-NA office within ten (10) days, indicating the recipients of the KWPN-NA awards. Photos of the winners are also appreciated and will be shared on social media, providing free publicity for your show! Send your results and photos to drew@kwpn-na.org.

Year-End Competition Awards

Each year, the KWPN-NA is proud to recognize achievement by KWPN-registered horses in the competition arena in partnership with the USEF, USDF, and USEA. As an owner/rider/driver, here’s what you need to know to be eligible:

DRESSAGE

To recognize accomplishments by KWPN horses in the dressage arena, the KWPN-NA participates in the United States Dressage Federation (USDF) All Breeds Program. To be eligible for the USDF All Breeds Program, the owner has to be a current member of the KWPN-NA. Additionally, the horse competing for the award must be in the owner’s name with the KWPN-NA (not just with USDF/USEF). If the owner and the rider are different people, the rider does not have to become a member of the KWPN-NA to make the horse eligible. If the horse is owned by more than one person, only one owner has to be a current member. Awards are determined at the end of the USDF competition year (end of October). Champion and Reserve Champion will be mailed and awards (Champion through fifth place) will be mentioned in the next Stallion Directory and Handbook. If you have questions about your eligibility, please contact drew@kwpn-na.org.  Please note that these are just the requirements for KWPN-NA, and in addition, competitors must meet all eligibility criteria for the USDF. To learn more, please contact cbrown@usdf.org or visit the USDF website www.usdf.org for more information.

HUNTERS/JUMPERS

To recognize accomplishments by KWPN horses in the hunter/jumper rings, the KWPN-NA participates in the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) Horse of the Year (HOTY) Program. To compete for the jumper breed awards via USEF, the owner has to be a current member of the KWPN-NA. Additionally, the horse competing for the award must be in the owner’s name with the KWPN-NA (not just with USEF). If the owner and the rider are different people, the rider does not have to become a member of the KWPN-NA to make the horse eligible. If the horse is owned by more than one person, only one owner has to be a current member. Awards are determined at the end of the USEF competition year (end of November). Good and Bad USEF points will count towards the year-end award. Champion and Reserve Champion will be mailed and awards (Champion through fifth place) will be mentioned in the next Stallion Directory and Handbook. Please note that these are just the requirements for KWPN-NA, and in addition, competitors must meet all eligibility criteria for the USEF. If you have questions about your eligibility, please contact drew@kwpn-na.org, and to learn more about the USEF HOTY program, visit www.usef.org.

To be eligible, the owner has to be a current member of the KWPN-NA. Additionally, the horse competing for the award must be in the owner’s name with the KWPN-NA (not just with USEA). If the owner and the rider are different people, the rider does not have to become a member of the KWPN-NA to make the horse eligible. If the horse is owned by more than one person, only one owner has to be a current member. Awards are determined at the end of the USEA competition year and will be determined according to USEA rankings. Champion and Reserve Champion will be mailed and awards (Champion through fifth place) will be mentioned in the next Stallion Directory and Handbook.
