Young Horse ClassesDG Bar Cup for Young Dressage HorsesFor Three-, Four- and Five-Year Olds The DG Bar Cup is sponsored by DG Bar Ranch and is a competition for three-, four- and five-year-old horses. Gaits, rideability, balance, rhythm and suppleness are some of the factors that are considered as the horses perform. The components of the DG Bar Cup and those of Part 2 (the ‘as a group’ portion) of the IBOP are the same. Therefore, if a horse is signed up for both the DG Bar Cup and Dressage IBOP, the horse has to perform the ‘as a group’ test only one time and will be scored for both classes at the same time. Entrants may sign up for either the IBOP or the DG Bar Cup or for both. One to three horses are shown at the same time and a ringmaster will call the test. The jury will ask the riders to show movements as outlined and evaluate the performance of horses and riders for 10 minutes. Horses are shown at the walk, trot and canter and are asked to stand for a conformation evaluation. The gaits will account for 60% of the total score with an additional 40% for self-carriage, suppleness, submission and talent for dressage. Ribbons through sixth place in each age group will be awarded at each keuring location. New in 2010 was that after both keuring tours are over, up to five horses scoring over 60% in each age group will be mailed a DG Bar Cup blanket. Additionally cash awards ($500 to the Champion, $250 to the Reserve Champion) will be divided between the breeder and owner of the winning horses. Overall Champions in each age group are honored during awards night at the KWPN-NA Annual Meeting where the Champions receive their prize money and DG Bar Cup trophy. Eligibility Open to three-, four- and five-year-old horses registered in the KWPN Foalbook, Studbook, Register A and Register B. The Test Horses will be shown one to three at a time and are separated by age and sex (if entry numbers are sufficient). Arena size: The DG Bar Cup is performed in a small arena, 20 x 40 meters. Three Year Olds – will be shown at trot, canter and walk in that order.
Four Year Olds – will be asked to lengthen the trot and canter, to leg yield both directions and to show stretching of the neck at the trot and walk. They will be shown at trot, canter and walk in that order.
Five Year Olds – will add shoulder-in and a 12–15 meter circle to the above. They will be shown at trot, canter and walk in that order.
Scoring There will be a minimum of two judges. Horses will be scored as follows:
